How did you get into recruiting Joe? 🕵️

After leaving school, I knew I wanted to start working ASAP. Like a lot of 16 year old’s I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, so I attended various interviews – accounting, administration and customer service, just to name a few.

Then I was offered an interview working for a recruitment agency. I had no idea how recruitment worked but I was intrigued. Long story short, I got offered the job and I’m still in recruitment now.

Last year was a difficult time for a lot of recruiters because of the impact of Covid-19. I was in engineering recruitment at the time and, thankfully, due to the demand for candidates in engineering food manufacturing, I didn’t go on furlough. If I’m honest, when the world was in lockdown 1.0, I’d never been busier!

What made RecruitmentJunky stand out? 🌟

I joined RecruitmentJunky because I fell in love with working from home. Like lots of other companies, my previous employer embraced remote working during the pandemic, but returned to the office when the world opened up again. RecruitmentJunky has great plans moving forward and I knew I wanted to be a part of the amazing team here.

I’ve only been working at RJ for a few months but the flexible working is amazing and the team is very supportive. We’re a small team but that gives a really nice family feel.

😬 Here’s a horrible interview question: where do you see yourself in three years’ time?

I’m really enjoying my time here at RecruitmentJunky and I’m very keen to progress my career further. Currently I have a progression plan to move into a senior role which is great.

In the longer term, I’d like to manage a little team. The team is growing so I can definitely see this happening!

Outside of recruiting? I have a huge love for travel. Covid-19 has put a hold on some plans, but I’m keen to go away and explore more countries as soon as I can.

Due to RecruitmentJunky’s flexible working, I’m even hoping to work abroad when the travel is permitted!

Why should people consider a career in recruitment? 💼 ❤️

I like recruitment because every day is different. I’m always working with different people, different companies and even different countries.

Recruitment is also very target driven. This works very well for me because I love to keep pushing myself. You can’t develop while in your comfort zone!

Good recruiters need many skills but I believe the ability to build strong relationships is the most important.

If you’re able to build strong relationships with both companies and individuals, you will be successful. To build the relationships, you need to come across as approachable, professional and knowledgeable within your field.
